Start an action packed day by stepping back in time to Medieval England when Robin and his band of merry men lived as outlaws, defying the Sheriff of Nottingham in an old fashioned battle of good against evil. Try your hand at archery and find out all about the Legendary Robin Hood. Alternatively come along to one of the evening Medieval banquets and murder mystery nights held every Friday and Saturday.

As famous a Robin Hood himself is Sherwood Forest , yet it’s Robin Hood connections are only part of the appeal. Here you can witness an abundance of stunning wildlife and sample a variety of woodland walks and country trails, as well as trying some cycling, horse riding or golf. It’s also home to the annual Robin Hood Festival.

Those who love visiting country houses will certainly delight at Newstead Abbey. The Abbey was originally founded as a monastic house in the 12th century and was later was famously home to Lord Byron. Today visitors can explore the house and its surrounding gardens that are packed with areas of interest and beauty, making for an enjoyable day out.

A great family day out can be had at the City of Caves underneath the streets of the city centre, where, via the Broad Marsh shopping centre, you can enter a very different world. This exciting array of Anglo-Saxon sandstone caves is home to a whole host of fascinating stories and activities. You can make a wish as you through a coin into the enchanted well, or find out what it was like to experience the Blitz. There’s also a medieval tannery and the Slums of Drury Hill give visitors an idea of the harshness of Victorian life in Nottingham . Tickets cost £4 for adults and £3 for kids, with reductions available on a family ticket.

As winner of the Visitor Attraction of the Year award you can expect a great day out at The Galleries of Justice in Shire Hall, site of the original court and county gaol. The centre takes your through 300 years of crime and punishment, the highlight of which is when you get to participate in a Victorian courtroom drama and join the prisoners in their cells. Will you be able to solve the crime though?
