Nottingham, Nottinghamshire -travel information and accommodation

Nottingham is becoming an increasingly popular place for weekends away, thanks to central location for attracting visitors from all over England and its great reputation for cosmopolitan living. It’s a city that boasts numerous visitor attractions for all ages and has countless cafes, bars and restaurants, not to mention a thriving club scene that makes for some fun nightlife. It is also one of the best places in Britain to sample a bit of retail therapy, with an excellent range of high street, designer and one off boutiques appealing to all tastes and budgets.

Whilst many of today’s visitors are enticed here solely by this vibrant modern city life, in complete contrast visitors still flock here to experience the legendary tales of Nottingham’s most famous resident, Robin Hood. Although not officially proved that such a fellow actually existed, it hasn’t stopping Nottingham cashing in on such stories, fuelled by several swashbuckling films. Details of such legends as well other local history can be found out about at Nottingham Castle that now houses an interesting museum and art gallery. What’s more with Sherwood Forest making a glorious place to visit even if it weren’t for the Robin Hood connection, Nottingham is never short of ideas to keep its visitors entertained.

The other famous export of Nottingham is its lace. The lace making industry thrived here in the 19th century, really putting Nottingham on the map as an important industrial hub. Now it’s only really sold to tourists in any great quantity but you can find out about the history of lace making at the Museum of Nottingham Lace and a visit to the once derelict but now totally regenerated Lace Market area, packed full of modern amenities including many trendy bars and hotels, is well worth a look.
